2.1: Introduction - Aldeias do Xisto

The Schist Villages Network is a sustainable development project with regional scope. Involves private and public forces embodied in ADXTUR agency, integrating 14 counties in the center of Portugal, where the 24 Schist Villages are located.

Over the last decade, ADXTUR bridged the gap between private and public needs, establishing a cooperative platform to promote cooperation and surpass existing discrepancies in the territory through coordination and interaction with different players. The common goal was: accomplish a sustainable development of the territory, reducing human desertion and heritage neglect.

Main objectives:

• promote sustainable development;
• divulge endogenous values and products;
• preserve the culture and heritage of the rural;
• Reinforce the wellbeing and quality of life of local populations.
